What you'll find at the Khau Pha launch and landing sites: ticket counter, viewpoint cafe, Lim Mong stream, restaurants, homestays and Tu Le specialities.
Khau Pha Pass is known as one of the “Four greatest Mountain passes” of Vietnam, along with Ô Quy Hồ Pass, Pha Đin Pass, and Mã Pí Lèng Pass.
The name “Khau Phạ” in the local Thai language means “horn of the sky,” referring to mountain peaks rising high into the clouds, creating a majestic and impressive landscape. At a launch altitude of 1,268 m above sea level, Khau Pha Pass stands out with:
⚫ Winding terrain with numerous sharp hairpin turns, where one side is steep mountain cliffs and the other opens to vast valleys, offering panoramic views of Tú Lệ valley and the terraced rice fields of Mù Cang Chải.
⚫ It is not only a challenging route for adventure travelers but also a famous sightseeing and check-in destination, especially during the golden rice season (September–October), when the entire area is covered in vibrant yellow hues.
👉 Thanks to its high elevation, open landscape, and stable wind conditions, Khau Pha Pass has become one of the most beautiful paragliding sites in Vietnam, attracting both local and international pilots and visitors.

🚗 Getting up to the launch site and parking on the pass
🚙 Getting to the takeoff site: Follow National Highway 32 from Hanoi → Nghĩa Lộ → Tú Lệ → Khau Pha Pass.
The mountain pass stretches 30km, featuring steep slopes and multiple sharp hairpin turns.
You can travel by: Motorbike (great experience but requires confident riding skills), private car, tourist or service vehicles.
👉 The road is paved but still winding, so careful driving is essential, especially in foggy conditions.
🅿️ Parking & check-in area: There is a designated parking area for both cars and motorbikes located opposite the takeoff site
Open views make it ideal for sightseeing and photography
👉 At this spot, you can also check in with the iconic large white “Khau Pha Pass” sign – one of the signature photo locations when visiting the area.

📍 What's around the landing field
After landing in the Lim Mong valley, you'll find places to eat, rest and experience local culture all within a short distance:
📍 Tu Le town, about 5 km away — local restaurants, a produce market, cafes, hot springs and a resort.
📍 The Thai village right beside the landing field — an unspoilt village setting, traditional brocade weaving and several family-run homestays.
📍 The salmon restaurant on Khau Pha Pass, about 8 km away — a familiar stop after a flight.
Each of these is covered in more detail in the sections below.
⚠️ Important notice at the pass summit
At the summit of Khau Pha Pass, there is a location known as the “paragliding restaurant.” However, this is not an official paragliding operator and is not part of the Mebayluon Paragliding system.
👉 Important notice for visitors:
🔻 This restaurant does not provide official paragliding services.
🔻 Any flight-related consultation or information from this location may be inaccurate or unverified.
🔻 There have been reports of activities that may affect paragliding operations in the area.
👉 To ensure safety, rights, and a proper standard experience, visitors are advised to:
* Register directly at the official ticket counter of Mebayluon Paragliding
* Or contact the operator in advance for clear and accurate guidance
🍽️ Where to eat near the flying sites
Right beside the launch site on Khau Pha Pass is the Huy Thanh salmon restaurant — also one of the largest sturgeon and salmon farms in Lao Cai province. The fish are raised and cooked on site, so they reach the table extremely fresh; the menu centres on hotpot, raw salad and grilled dishes.
Down in Tu Le town there are two more places our guests keep going back to: Pho Nui and Suoi Tien, both known for local ethnic cooking.
🏕️ The Mebayluon Clubhouse by the stream
The landing field sits right beside a natural stream, one of the prettiest in the region, and this is also where the Mebayluon Clubhouse stands — a stilt house built in the Thai ethnic style, in the middle of a wide valley.
The Clubhouse serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with coffee, drinks, a campfire, karaoke and evening lighting. Guests can sit with a drink and watch paragliders land right in front of them, or wade in the stream. In high season it is the busiest gathering point in the area. The Clubhouse also has rooms for guests staying overnight.
Right beside the landing field is It Thai village — many people still call it Lim Thai. It is a Black Thai village on the stream, where the landscape remains largely untouched. You can walk through the village or stay the night.
Besides the Mebayluon Clubhouse, several well-regarded places here are run by local families, such as Little House in Khau Pha and Blue Home. There is also a cluster of homestays in the Khau Pha Friends (KPF) network — Quan Pom, Kien Panh, Quyet Doan and Khau Pha House — which KPF has helped renovate and bring up to standard since 2018.
What brings many visitors back is the people: warm, not yet commercialised, and still holding on to their traditions.
♨️ Other things to do around Tu Le
About 5 km from the landing field are the Tu Le hot springs — an open-air onsen soak that pairs perfectly with a day of flying.
For something more energetic there is a zipline at Le Champ. Guests who prefer a more upmarket stay will find Le Champ Tu Le Resort Hot Spring & Spa about ten minutes' drive from the landing field.
🧵 Local craft and food to take home
In the village you can watch traditional Thai indigo dyeing, or try pounding young rice yourself and taste Tu Le com straight from the pestle.
The valley is known for sen cu rice and Tu Le sticky rice, and above all for khau hang — "old com" in the Black Thai language — fragrant, soft and chewy. For gifts to take home, fresh com or com sticky-rice cakes are the usual choice.
🅿️ Parking at the landing field and motorbike rental
The landing site has a large car park with easy access. A 40-seat coach can drive all the way in and turn around, and the area holds roughly 40 cars.
If you want your own wheels to explore nearby spots, motorbikes can be rented on site for around 150,000–200,000 VND per day.
Every guest flying at Khau Pha Pass receives a free drink voucher — tea, coffee, lemon tea and other options.
What makes it different is that you can use it at either site: the cafe at the launch point while you wait your turn, or the service area at the landing field once you are down. Mebayluon runs facilities at both ends, so you don't need to bring anything or look for somewhere outside.
No other operator at Khau Pha currently offers this.
🔄 Free cancellation and rescheduling
Mountain weather changes fast, so Mebayluon lets you refund, cancel or reschedule any service free of charge. Book ahead without worrying about losing money if your plans shift or the weather turns.
We ask only that you tell us a few hours before departure so we can reassign pilots and transfers.
