What is powered paragliding?

Powered paragliding (paramotor, PPG) is a paraglider with an engine behind you. An unpowered glider depends on the wind if you want to stay up long or climb high; a paramotor does not. It takes off from low ground, climbs as high as you want, stays up as long as you want, and flies even on a still day. It is the premium way to fly here, because it reaches viewpoints an ordinary paraglider simply cannot.

That makes it the choice for anyone who wants to fly at the best hour of the day — early morning while cloud still fills the valley, or late afternoon as the sun drops behind the ridge — without depending on whether the wind turns up.

At both sites we fly a trike — a paramotor mounted on wheels. You sit in the front seat, the pilot sits behind and flies. There is no take-off run, so it also suits older guests and anyone not used to physical exertion.

Two places to fly a paramotor

2 PPG flying sites

Mebayluon flies powered paragliders at Khau Pha Pass (Mu Cang Chai) and at Quan Ba (Ha Giang). At both, the paramotor takes off and lands on the same field, so there is no drive up the mountain.

3 in 1: Khau Pha and Quan Ba are the only two sites in northern Vietnam offering paragliding (PG), paramotor (PPG) and paragliding training.

Getting there: About 250 km from Hanoi, roughly 5 hours by road. From Tu Le, 3.3 km on QL32 to the Ban Lim junction, then about 1 km in.
What you see: Rice terraces, the Tu Le valley and Khau Pha Pass; early mornings can take you above a sea of cloud.
Best season: Water-filling season (April–May), green rice (June–July) and golden rice (August–September).
Flight time: 15 minutes · special package 20–25 minutes (sunrise, sunset, cloud hunting).

Ha Giang

Quan Ba

Take-off & landing: The field by the Mien River (450 m), about 10.5 km from Quan Ba centre. View coordinates on Google Maps
Getting there: Hanoi to Ha Giang city is about 300 km (overnight sleeper bus, 6–7 hours), then about 45 km on QL4C up to Quan Ba.
What you see: The karst plateau, the Twin Mountains (Núi Đôi), Quan Ba Heaven's Gate, the Mien River and the Lung Tam valley.
Best season: Most beautiful in autumn (buckwheat flowers in October–November); spring and summer are for cloud-chasing flights.
Flight time: 15 minutes · advanced package 20–25 minutes (cloud hunting, sunrise, sunset).

Choose Khau Pha if you…

Travelling to Mu Cang Chai – Tu Le: fly over rice terraces in the water-filling, green-rice or golden-rice season.

Visiting in autumn for the plateau at its best, or in spring and summer for cloud-chasing flights.

No two flights alike

Every day brings different weather, so flights differ a lot: sunny or cloudy days, with or without a sunrise or sunset, strong or light wind — and as the wind direction changes, so does the flight path.

Four ways to fly

The four experiences below are at Khau Pha. Quan Ba also offers a 20–25-minute advanced package: cloud hunting, sunrise or sunset.

Cloud hunting

Climb to around 2,000 m, through the low cloud that fills the Tu Le valley and out above a white sea of cloud. A 20–25-minute flight, best in the early morning after a rainy night or on a cold day.

Sunrise flight

Flown between 06:00 and 07:00 on sunny days: meet the sun in the air while the whole valley is still under mist. A 20–25-minute flight in the calmest hour of the day.

Sunset flight

Flown between 16:00 and 17:00 on sunny days, as the sun sinks behind the ridge and the cloud below turns gold and orange. A 20–25-minute flight — the shot our guests photograph most.

Climb to 2,000 m

Go up to around 2,000 metres on the cloud-hunting flight for the whole of Khau Pha Pass, the Tu Le valley and the ranges behind it — an altitude an unpowered glider rarely reaches.

If none of the three special-flight options can be flown, or the wind is too weak for a long flight, the surcharge is refunded after the flight, which becomes a standard flight.

How the flight works

1. Book ahead

Book via the website, hotline, Zalo/WhatsApp or a partner platform. Website bookings are confirmed instantly; the time slot is set according to the forecast.

2. Arrive at the site

Khau Pha: come to Clubhouse Mebayluon at the agreed time. Quan Ba: our team picks you up and drops you off within the Quan Ba area. Complete check-in and collect your flight ticket.

3. Safety briefing

The pilot shows you how to sit and where to keep your hands and feet on take-off and landing, and answers any question before you board.

4. Gear up and take off

Harness and helmet on. The trike rolls across the field and lifts off — you simply sit still, no running required.

5. Fly and enjoy

In the air you are free to look around, film and talk to the pilot. Want to go higher, or take it gently? Just say so.

6. Land and get your footage

A gentle landing back on the same field. GoPro photos and video are handed over right after the flight; 360° files follow within 24 hours.
