Learn to Paraglide in Vietnam: 1-to-1 P1–P2 Course at Khau Pha

If one tandem flight is not enough and you want to fly your own wing, Vietnam is a good place to start: consistent flying sites, a lower cost than Europe, and one of the world's most beautiful valleys to land in. Our beginner course takes you from never having touched a paraglider to taking off, flying and landing on your own under an instructor's supervision.

Why one-to-one?

Every student has their own instructor for all 7 days. The instructor follows each inflation, each run and each flight over the radio, so mistakes are corrected as soon as they appear instead of turning into habits. Progress follows your ability rather than the pace of a group: if you pick things up quickly you fly sooner, and if you need more ground handling you get it. It is also why start dates are flexible — you choose the dates and we assign an instructor.

A theory session before heading out to the training slope

What's included

  • Accommodation at the Mebayluon Clubhouse next to the landing field for the whole course
  • All training and flying equipment: wing, harness, helmet, reserve parachute, radio
  • Your instructor on the ground and on the radio during every flight
  • One free tandem flight for yourself

Not included: meals, drinks and travel to the site.

What you learn

  • Theory (about an hour each day): basic meteorology, flight mechanics, air law and right-of-way rules, equipment care, reading conditions.
  • Ground handling: inflating and controlling the wing — the skill everything else rests on.
  • Low flights: takeoff, steering and landing close to the ground, guided by radio.
  • High flights: your first flights from the main launch down to the landing field.

Paragliding depends on the weather. On days that are not flyable, the lesson becomes theory and ground handling, so none of your 7 days is wasted.

Who can join

  • Normal health — no heart disease, high blood pressure or epilepsy
  • Fit enough to run a few dozen metres carrying the equipment
  • No previous experience needed — most of our students start from zero
  • Under 18 with a parent's or guardian's consent

Do I get a licence?

It's the question students ask most. The 7-day course teaches skills to the IPPI standard syllabus and is enough for you to fly solo about 5–10 times. But P1–P2 is still a student level, not a pilot level, so the course does not issue a licence. If you want a licence, train for another 1–2 months to complete your skills — above all landing on your own — and then go straight to the P3 exam, without sitting P1 or P2. Organising an exam is fairly expensive and not needed at P1–P2 level, so the 7-day course focuses entirely on knowledge and skills.

After the course

After the course you can come back and keep flying with our support at no extra cost, and we help you choose a wing, harness and reserve that suit your level and weight instead of buying on impulse.

If you plan to buy second-hand gear, let your instructor inspect it before you pay. When you are ready to go further, the path to P3 and advanced courses is planned around your actual level — see the P3–P4 roadmap and licensing.

When to come

Khau Pha flies most of the year; the rice terraces are most spectacular in the water-pouring season (May–June) and the golden season (mid-September to early October). Tell us your dates and your language when you get in touch, and we will match you with an instructor.
